Earlier today, a British source confirmed that heavyweight world champion, Wladimir Klitschko has withdrawn from his December 11, 2010 bout against British champion, Dereck Chisora, due to an injury.
Earlier reports surfaced that the withdrawal was due to a back injury, however, the latest reports now say that the injury is a torn abdominal muscle on the left side.
This fight would have marked Wladimir Klitschko’s 19th World Championship title fight.
Klitschko held a public workout earlier today, and sources say that the injury occurred during the workout while hitting the mitts with trainer, Emmanuel Steward. The champion is expected to be out of action for approximately two months. While the injury is fresh and will prevent Klitschko from fighting in three days, reports have surfaced that the injury is not considered serious. Thankfully, the champion should recover nicely and be back in action in approximately sixty days.
This unfortunate news comes just two days after both men met Monday for the one-week press conference held in Mannheim, Germany. The heavyweight world champion, Wladimir Klitschko and unbeaten British champion, Dereck Chisora joined the media to speak about their upcoming fight this Saturday at SAP ARENA in Mannheim.
The Saturday fight was highly anticipated by many, including Klitschko’s opponent, Chisora. This fight was to determine the heavy weight champion of the world, and was an important date in the career of Dereck Chisora. Clearly this is disappointing news for Derek ‘Del Boy’ Chisora who was just 72 hours away from the biggest fight of his career thus far.
Sky sports reported that Chisora’s promoter, Frank Warren has already started negotiations to re-arrange the fight. That comment could lead one to believe that “re-arrange the fight” is in regards to the fight with Klitschko. However, the comment seems to open to interpretation and has yet to be determined or confirmed.
British sources tell us that negotiations have apparently opened with David Haye, as well. . Haye is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions. We are told that Haye’s manager and trainer, Adam Booth, will now be flying to Las Vegas on Saturday, entertaining such negotiations.
Please note that at the time that this article was written, that all parties involved have not yet confirmed the aforementioned negotiation between Haye and Chisora.
David Haye will be in Las Vegas to watch fellow Brit, Amir Khan face Marcos Maidana this Saturday. We will keep you informed as this story develops. We wish Wladimir Klitschko a speedy and healthy recovery.

When this fight was first signed, I speculated Wlad took it in order to remove another potential British opponent from Haye, possibly forcing him to look at fighting Vitali. If Haye does go on to fight Chisora, it's just another road to avoid a Klitschko. Good reporting
