A part of me is surprised to hear of this recent news coming out of Green Bay, and then another part of me really isn’t.
Earlier today, Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy mentioned that he wants Brett Favre to be a part of the organization in the future.
Mark Murphy on Favre being a part of the organization –
“Yeah, at the appropriate time, we’ll reach out to him. And I envision he’ll come back into the fold.”
Murphy also mentioned that he wants to see Brett’s number retired but that the team has yet to officially talk to Brett about it.
Mark Murphy on the retirement of Favre’s number –
“Yeah we want to make sure it’s the right time for him.”
A few weeks back when Brett filed his retirement papers for the second time in his career, I felt that there would be a possibility of the Packers offering him a one day contract so that he could retire as a Packer. However I never thought that after what happened between he and Ted Thompson that there would be anything more than that offered or even considered.
Some even thought that the idea of Brett getting a one day contract from the Packers was maybe a stretch.
It will be interesting to see how things play out between Brett and his former employer over the rest of the year.
