America’s love jones over Tim Tebow. How did it happen?

Tebow mania has swept the country and it doesn’t look like it will be going away anytime soon. Even if you’re not a Tim Tebow fan, you know exactly what’s going on with him and his pro career every minute, hour and day of the week.

Everything that Tebow does and says is carefully watched and analyzed. When Tebow does something good in practice or in a game, the time table in which he will become the starter gets moved up by one week. Tim Tebow has reached Chuck Norris like status.

In case you didn’t know:

“The Denver Broncos didn’t draft Tim Tebow; Tim Tebow drafted the Denver Broncos.”

“Did you know that it was Tim Tebow that led slaves through the Underground Railroad to their freedom not Harriet Tubman? He built it too.”

I must admit that I have been known to call Tim Tebow “Baby Jesus in cleats” who can perform miracles on and off the football field.

Any who, I can’t think of an NFL rookie who has come into the league with this much fan fare and hype that has had more questions about his future as an NFL pro than the last pick in the draft.

Am I hating? No, I am just stating the obvious. Ray Lewis said it best after the draft when he said that Tebow isn’t the first highly decorated or accomplished college player to come into the NFL. So what’s with all the hype and special treatment that he is getting from retired and/or current NFL coaches going out of their way to help him? No one else has received treatment like that.

I tend to agree with Ray and wonder myself. What is all the Tebow hype about? Why is it that people around the country especially people in Denver, love them some Tim Tebow?

Corporate America also loves them some Tebow. Tim has inked endorsement deals with Jockey to launch a new product line called “stay cool,” and with Nike that made a Tim Tebow shoe that sold out in five minutes a few weeks ago. Not to mention that ever since he was drafted, he has had the number one selling jersey in the NFL.

Coaching will be key for Tebow to become a legit NFL quarterback

I am happy for Tim’s success, I have said several times that I think he was drafted by the right team, that has the right coaching staff in place that will help him become a good starting quarterback in the NFL.

At the same time, I am not blind to the fact that he may not ever become a good starting quarterback in the NFL since some of his issues are things that may not be correctable and haven’t been with other players. I am not saying that he doesn’t have a place in this league; it just may not be at quarterback. I hope it is though, with his physical tools, he can be a serious dual threat on the field.

My view and outlook for Tebow is the same as many people including the media. Not once have I ever seen the media say anything different than what I just said about Tim. So what is truly the root cause for Tebow mania? Because with the opinion that I just gave for Tim which is that of many, there shouldn’t be this much hype.

I do think that the media has a little to do with Tebow mania. I can’t say that they are solely to blame for it, because eventually Tim Tebow the man, the myth, the legend would have come out. But they have fanned the flames of Tim Tebow hype for years now.

Personally, I think there are a couple of things that has caused this Tebow firestorm going way back to Tim’s college days.

In today’s overpaid, hyper sensitive, me first athlete sports world that we live in, Tim represents what people envision an athlete should be or what they used to be back in the day. A mature, clean cut, intelligent, humble, god fearing and a respectable human being who kids can look up to and aspire to be. Granted, parents should ultimately be who kids look up to.

He is the type of young man that everyone hopes and dreams that their child whether a boy or girl will become one day. Tebow has never been in trouble, he has a good education, he is a great athlete, you could say that he is fairly successful, and he seems to be pretty level headed, well mannered and respectful of others.

Whether you agree with his religious beliefs or not, there is nothing wrong with a man having some sort spiritual faith.

Nevertheless, the main reason for Tebow mania is because of all of the great accomplishments that he has achieved on and off the field that have become legendary.

Whether it’s leading the University of Florida to two national championships, or winning the Heisman Trophy, or being a missionary and helping kids over in third world countries during the summer. Tim has built a reputation for doing great things while being a goodie two shoes at the same time. He has become like a modern day Superman.

There is nothing wrong with that, it’s just not common in today’s world, and what’s not common fascinates people.

I also think that most people if not everyone wants to see Tebow prove the naysayers wrong. Everyone loves an underdog, and most people like to see good things happen to good people.

I hope he does prove people wrong.
